Introduction An assault on other people to death intentionally is called a murder. The intention is not only to cause injuries. The method to take life chosen by most murderers is the use of handgun which is highly destructive. This problem is needed to study to pave the way to the prevention and solution of the murder of this nature. Objective To study and analyse the incidence of the gunshot homicide in both genders, type of guns, number of shots per case and the body site of the shots. Method The retrospective descriptive study approach on 275 cases of gunshot homicide referred by the police to Srinagarind Hospital for forensic autopsy by the forensic pathologists from January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2008. Results The incidence of male to female victims was 10 : 1. The most frequent age ranges were 15 - 25 years (27.27%). The most common site of the gunshot wound was the head (52.06%). The victims lost their lives by only one shot could be found as many as 50.18%. Conclusion The gunshot homicide was found to be as highly successful as the murderers expected. This might be due to the choice of target on the head that the damage therein could cause death or complete homicide. The further investigation to find the possible means to prevent and solve this problem is the utmost important endeavor to carry out.
